Introducing Our Ministries

Slogan: Serving as a Sending Church

Scripture:

How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” (Romans 10:14-15)

Our Conviction:

Missions should be the priority of the church. It is not just for mission “fanatics”.
Missions is the responsibility of every believer and leader to mobilize and to be involved in missions.

Where It All Began :

In 1973, Rev Jacob Fung and the deacons of Grace (S.C.C.) Church invited Rev Mark Cheng Kor, the senior pastor of Grace Church (the Philippines) to speak in our Mission Spiritual Convention.  Through the faith testimonies of Grace Church (the Philippines), members of Grace Church were spurred to embark on the faith journey in missions.

The Grace Mission Board was thus established in 1974.  In the same year, we held our very first Mission Convention for seven days consecutively. Rev Gentle Lee, the invited speaker from Hong Kong, expounded on the imperatives of the local church to shoulder the responsibility of missions from a biblical perspective.  Moreover, he challenged one and all to be involved in missions.  The faith pledge target for that year was S$20,000.  Yet God, in His greatness, blessed the church with a faith pledge collection of over S$50, 000.  That year, the church was able to send out six missionaries.
The 2nd Mission Convention was held on 24th – 29th June 1975.  The first three days of the convention were evangelistic rallies with Rev Mak Haay Chan as the main speaker.  Spiritual revival meetings were conducted in the following three days.  The main speaker was Rev Philip Teng.  Once again the actual faith pledge collection exceeded the target of S$50,000 and amounted to S$68,000.

The year 1975 also saw the publication of our mission newsletter “Go and Preach”.  The newsletters not only reported on the mission works of Grace Church locally and overseas, it served as the platform where the Lord’s messages to the leaders were conveyed to the congregation.  The editor of the newsletter was Rev Stephen Chen, our mission director since 1974.  Every month, 7,000 copies were sent to local and overseas churches.  With the blessing of the Lord, “Go and Preach” was able to encourage many more people to commit themselves to the work of missions.
For the first eleven years of mission mobilisation, from 1974 to 1985, Grace Church had adopted the direct sending model.  The Mission Committee of the church took care of all the administrative and financial matters, and provided supervision to our missionaries.  On the other hand, members of the church joined in prayers, participated in faith pledges and cared for our missionaries through correspondences.
From 1985 onwards, Grace (S.C.C.) Church adopted a tri-partnership sending model, which is, to work hand-in-hand with mission agencies in sending out missionaries.  The church would provide the missionaries with financial, moral and prayer supports while the mission agencies would supervise the missionaries and handle all the administrative matters, including arrangement details in the mission fields.
Currently the 65 missionaries and mission workers are sent out and supported through this method.  Our partners in missions include Overseas Missionary Fellowship, SIM International, Operation Mobilisation, Wycliffe Bible Translators, Global Reachout, Every Home Crusade and Chinese Overseas Christian Mission, etc.
